Today's Geography Question

Is it called the Dry Tortugas because the rum's gone?

Or for their sardonic wit?

Ektually, I believe it's onnacounta the lack of fresh water sources. See also the Dry Salvages (aka Selvagens).

No idea whatsoever. But I wanted to thank you, Rolanni and Kinzel, for being among the people instrumental into my wife becoming a writer. A Merry Christmas to you, and a Happy New Year.

And for this you thank us?

Please give Sue our very best wishes for a happy birthday, and many more to come.

You're right. She should sue you instead, but first she has to wait for you to move into Old Orchard Beach's Korval Mansion. Heheheh... Thanks for the birthday wishes, and our best wishes to both of you for the New Year.

The "dry" part of the name comes from the lack of fresh water. However, I've never seen any rum when I've been there though, so the rum must be gone.

By the way, my default LJ icon is a picture of sunrise over Long Key in the Dry Tortugas.
