Five Things Make a Post, the Sunday Edition

Time-Warner lost a major cable in Syracuse this morning, subsequently all of New Hampshire and Maine disappeared from the internets. Did you miss us? We missed you.


Today was a 'waaaayyyy high pollen day. I bugged out for an hour in the middle of it all and took a nap, so the six thousand words I had hoped to write today? Didn't happen. I think I need to set lower goals.


What also didn't happen, what with being disappeared from the internets and all, was registering the unregistered books with the Copyright Office. I guess that's my project for tomorrow evening. I know that a number of people have asked how they could help, and it happens that we're willing to accept help (see the low-cash-flow situation previously referenced). Still trying to figure out the mechanics of that. Watch this space.


I think I forgot to report earlier in the week that the iris rhizomes previously reported eaten were found near and in the savaged plot of ground where they'd been planted, not much the worse for the wear. I replanted and they seem to be doing well. Fingers crossed that there'll be no more iris-related adventures of the distressing kind.


Tomorrow is Monday. No fair.

So the skunk dug them up, but didn't eat them? I'd be kind of curious as to what the critter thought he was digging up... can't be bird eggs down there? Or was it really a skunk? You don't have zombies in the neighborhood, do you? Or necromancers or others who might do some misguided digging?

Maybe Bugs Bunny took the wrong turn at Albuquerque again?

What is considered a high pollen count up there? I ask because in Atlanta it regularly reaches 3000+ every spring. You gotta cut and *chew* the air in the spring and I've even made pollen angels (like snow angels only yellow) in the driveway.

We get the pollen, but we also have frequent high winds that result in our air containing a high percentage of Mexico or Oklahoma, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

That's good about the iris rhyzomes, even if it is weird why they were dug up but not eaten.

Rhizomes are generally built for storage; flavor, not so much. Humans lucked out with ginger, and maybe, galengal. I just hope --well, not a lot of hope, I'm afraid-- the skunks, or whatever, learned from the experience. Was there other freshly turned earth in the neighborhood?
