Oh, no, this is plenty of room for this one, which is a Different Sort of first draft than, say, Fledgling, which did need lots and lots of work at the back end.
Since it was written in Sekrit, I got to go back and fix stuff as I went along in Mouse and Dragon. It still does need a thorough going-through and a slaying of Ugly Sentences, and there are a couple of points I need to work in, and the ending needs Serious Work (which it always does), but! Summer hours at the day-job start on June 8 (up from June 15; the college is Saving Money), which means I can concentrate on the book five days a week for five whole weeks, if I wanna.
Happens I don't wanna, 'cause right after we turn in Mouse I have to do revisions for Carousel Tides and I don't have the faintest idea how to make that right, so if I can get more time for that, I'd be a happy woman.
It's been a real treat watching you rack up that word count.
Late last night I finished Scout's Progress, and when I went to check the timeline in the Unibus (I'm reading the e-book versions. I've heard of an omnibus, but what is an unibus?) I was extremely distressed to see that there were no more stories listed before the death of Aelliana. (extremely. Distressed.) I don't know which made me more upset, that Daav only has her for 4 years, or that there wasn't a story, where the two of them got to be happy together post Aelliana being abused.
It wasn't until this morning that I remembered about Mouse & Dragon and realized that this could be nothing other than the story I want. THANK YOU! (Although still unhappy with only 4 years for Daav & Aelliana.)
FYI, I love the Tree more and more, every time I read about it. I think the Tree and Jela are my two most favorite characters in the whole series.
I'm not awake yet. I read it as "Since it was written in Sanskrit", and thought that would make it longer to translate (and harder to put up as an e-book, I don't think most readers have the appropriate font installed).
Time to run around the house, let all the little knots and tensions go, tell the cats they've been good little helpers (hey, napping can be hard work, too), and do whatever marks the end for you. And congratulations! Another milestone slipped past, another pile of words set up for the next stage, outstanding! And still a few weeks before the deadline, too. Give yourself a big pat on the back!
Thank you, Tank u, Thank you. My summer reading now assured! Salivating at the thought of more Daav and Aellie. Put your feet up, take a deep breathe, and relax, relax. Sleep late, laze about - you deserve it. Thank you!
When Baen asked us for titles for their electronic compilations, we weren't feeling particularly creative and the best we could come up with was the Deeply Unexciting "Liaden Universe(R) Omnibus Number One" and "Ditto Number Two".
Neither one of us was satisfied with that and we stared at the page and one of us said -- "It's a Liaden Unibus of course" -- scrambling "omnibus" and "universe".
We have very strange minds and even stranger senses of humor, I fear.
(Although still unhappy with only 4 years for Daav & Aelliana.)
...yeah, I kind of do feel like a Bad God for that.
July 15, 2009
But I foresee a very busy month and a half ahead for you and Steve.
The cats will have to schedule overtime for this one.

I was going to send dancing rodents, but they refused to go because they're afraid of your cats.
