I'm from the country, myself

Lest you think it's all coon cats and iced tea -- a thrilling tale of a moose encounter, with a side of SUV.

With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kinzel for pointing it out.

"Moose, moose, I like a moose..."

Or as the Scotsman said to the Canadian: "If tha's yer moose ah dinna wan' te see yer rat!"

As they said, colliding with something the size of a moose at the speed limit (even 55) is not easy to survive, and then the other vehicles as well...

That's one lucky woman. But I shouldn't have clicked. It brings back the vivid memory of witnessing the aftermath of a small pick-up's collison with a loose horse, The outcome wasn't nearly so fortunate.

Wow, she's lucky. Both in the collision AND the kindness of strangers. Still I keep thinking, Thank God the kid was with her dad.

We have deer but deer don't do nearly as much damage as Mooses.

Respect the moose, folks. He's bigger than us. Usually placid, but able to take swift and destructive action with his long legs and substantial mass.
A year or so ago, driving rather cautiously through light freezing rain, I found myself in the same section of Rt 2 as a moose which had forgotten to don its cleats. He sprawled across a northbound lane while I stopped more or less smoothly in a southbound lane. As we all thought about things, other cars pulled up behind me and began to gawk. All I could think about was "How fast can I get out of here?" Once you've seen what a moose can do to a windshield, not even in a temper, you'll clear the area as rapidly as prudence allows!
Stay safe, and watch for those non-reflective coats at night!
