Kindle sold at a loss

Regarding the Borderlands editorial: The idea that selling the Kindle at a loss should not be treated quite so harshly. When DVD players first came out they were well over $100 and going onto $200 in some cases. When I bought one for under $50 some years later (and one for under $25 after that) I remarked on it to a friend in the movie industry. He said that the major studios were subsidizing the no-name manufacturers so that it would be easier to sell "content." That is, DVDs of their movies. And remember that Kodak, in them thar olden days, used to sell really cheap cameras because they wanted to sell film. Whatever that was...
Just sayin'
All the best,
Robert Tolchin
