At least nowadays there are FONTS, COLORS, and cut& paste -- chapters could be pretty well labeled before they were laid out on the floor in a reasonable order. There is much to be said for doing that sort of thing before printing it out. Bold, Blue, Red, Green -- lots of ways to make it less stressful.
