Persistence does pay. I don't know anyone who's crowd-sourcing novels at the moment, but I do know several who are successfully self-publishing their fiction. It is a lot of work, but it gets some good fiction out there that "publishers" seem to turn their noses up at, and at a reasonable price. Unless you want the paperback version, which, being POD, is usually (but not always) more money than I want to pay. I admire the effort and the results.
