Soliciting statements of interest

An Alert Reader has noticed that February 2018 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Liaden Universe® in print.  This is derived from the fact that Agent of Change was published as a paperback original by Del Rey, in February 1988.

Said Alert Reader has put out a call for celebratory Limited Edition Hardcovers in honor of this anniversary.  Clearly, this is not something that we, the authors, can do.  We can, however, take the idea to Madame the Publisher, if there seems to be sufficient interest.

This is where you come in.

If Limited Edition Liaden Universe® Hardcovers were published, would you purchase it/them?

I realize that price is very often an object for you, as it is for me, so if you have a price in mind, let me know that, too.

Thanks for your help.

. . .Sprite also thanks you for your help.

Hmmm, hardcovers of...what? AoC or AoC plus CoH and CD as the "original books"? All books that haven't had a hardcover release? Everything but in limited editions?

I would buy them, but I'm a well-off long-time fan and collector-of-favorites.

Maybe a tribute (pro and fan) book instead?

Do people buy tribute books?

Asking as one who doesn't. Biographies, yes. Tributes...not so much.

No idea! I do for favorite authors. Upon reflection, maybe it's just any connected material like maybe a Liaden encyclopedia.

I would definitely be interested but price is a factor. I don't have one in mind because too much may change between now and then.

I would be interested. Price is a consideration but not a major factor.

Yes, I'd be interested. Especially if they were the limited edition leather hardcovers that Baen has sometimes done.

I don't read in paper any longer, preferring my Kindle by a long margin, but I'd love to have a collectible edition or three. Or more.

yes I would, mostly so that the shelf looks balanced...

I can't afford to buy hardbacks. I do buy the Liaden series in new paperbacks.

Collectors editions

That would be Binjali.

I'd be interested - if we're talking about just AoC, then ... maybe $35? If we're talking about AoC + CoH + CD, then $20-25 each. For nice leather bound, maybe more? More books than that - depends on how my budget is doing at the time.

I'm in the de-cluttering stage of life. I no longer buy paper books, if I can get an digital version. I wouldn't have bothered to respond, but thought you should hear other voices besides the ones who say "I will".

To Buy Or Not To Buy

[identity profile] ireneha.livejournal.com 2016-02-29 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a good question.
I have the PARTNERS Hard cover collected CONFLICT & AGENT & CARPE

But it is very heavy to hold while reading.

I think that I would buy a new hardcover AGENT of change, if you included some of the short stories about Val Con and Miri. (Where Val Con meets Edger, Miri on Klamath & Val Con creates a fashion statement with an orange cloak)
Maybe with a nice new afterword? Ooh-Ooh-Ooh- and a totally new Val Con & Miri short story - perhaps a chapter that was pulled out of the original book.

I too am decluttering. I still prefer paper, however, so I have all your books. I buy the HB when they first come out, and the PB for ease of reading. I really don't need a collector's edition. Thanks anyway.

If they were leather-bound, yes. I already have everything in hard cover.

I'm also a probably not. I have your books in many formats already and I do not do "collecting".

I have a few signed copies of your work.

I almost never buy "dead tree" copies anymore, as I don't have the room anymore.

Be that as it is, I WOULD buy them for the grandchildren.

As someone who owns all the novels in hardcover editions (some in omnibus only) (because hardcover), paperback (because I love those Ace covers) and ebook (for actual reading with adjustable type size) ... why yes, I would probably purchase hardcover editions. Heck, I'd probably purchase insanely-priced specialty bound editions. Because I'm also a Bujold fan, and I own the Hill House cloth-bound signed limited edition. Yes, I do. Because I am insane about my favorites.

(I tried to just link that book, but my comment got marked as spam!)

[identity profile] ironore.livejournal.com 2016-03-03 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I would certainly buy them. I have purchased all your more recent books in hard cover and would certainly like to add the original ones in hard cover.

Yes I would buy it/them

At usual hard cover rates or even higher.
