*laughs* I don't *usually* do that, for what it's worth. It's just that the book originally was really guy-heavy (because the thing I'm filing the serial numbers off was almost ENTIRELY men) and I'd changed a couple of the characters to women because of that, which I thought brought me pretty well up to parity and it just kind of struck me to count 'em up and see. And I wasn't all that close to parity, and it changes almost nothing and certainly *harms* nothing to flip a couple more characters from male to female, so: I'm doing that.
OTOH, a book I wrote much more recently, also with a male lead, and with a wide cast of supporting female characters, made me think at one point "do I have too many girls in this book?" (followed by "fuck, no, I don't, jesus christ, brain"), so I think there might be some value, for me anyway, in kind of keeping a mental eye on it.
