BALANCE OF TRADE WINS HAL CLEMENT AWARD

Balance of Trade by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Meisha Merlin, 2004) is the winner of the Hal Clement Award for Best Young Adult Science Fiction Novel of 2004. The award is presented by the Golden Duck Awards (http://www.goldenduck.org), which also presents the Eleanor Cameron Award for Best Middle Grade Science Fiction, as well as a picture book award. Past winners of the Hal Clement Award include: Caroline Stevermer, Lois Lowry, Nancy Farmer, Steven Gould, David Gerrold, and Harry Turtledove.

The Golden Duck Awards are funded by Super-Con-Duck-Tivity, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation, which also sponsors regional science fiction convention DucKon. Winners are selected by a group of teachers, librarians, parents, high tech workers and reviewers. The awards have been given since 1992.

In other news, the trade paperback edition of Balance of Trade debuted in the Number 2 spot in the Locus Bestseller list for May. The hardcover edition spent three months in a row on the list.

Balance of Trade was the first Lee and Miller hardcover not to have a print run limited to the number of pre-orders. This means that, while signed hardcovers are no longer available from Meisha Merlin, both hardcover and trade paperback editions are available at fine bookstores near you, as well as through Amazon.com and BN.com.

CRYSTAL SOLDIER AVAILABILITY

Early distribution problems with the hardcover release of Crystal Soldier have now reportedly been solved, and the books should be on the shelves of your favorite local bookstore. If you cannot find the book, it remains available at these and other independent bookstores: Uncle Hugos (http://www.unclehugo.com), Mysterious Galaxy (http://www.mystgalaxy.com), Pandemonium Books (http://www.pandemoniumbooks.com/), Borderlands (http://www.borderlands-books.com/), DreamHaven (http://www.dreamhavenbooks.com). All of these stores are happy to do mail order.

Signed books are no longer available from Meisha Merlin. Those who want signed copies of Crystal Soldier may want to write to Ellen Richmond, owner of Children's Book Cellar, Lee and Miller's local indie bookstore, at kidsbookscellarATverizon.net (replace the AT with the usual "at" sign).

CRYSTAL DRAGON COVER ART AND EXCERPT ONLINE

Meisha Merlin (http://www.meishamerlin.com) now has the cover art and a brief excerpt for Crystal Dragon online, and has opened ordering. Once again, Lee and Miller will sign the first 750 pre-ordered books, after which signed books will no longer be available from Meisha Merlin.

SPECIAL NOTE: At this time, ebook arrangements have not been finalized. Look for an announcement regarding the Crystal Dragon ebook in the fall.

SWORD OF ORION AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

Lee and Miller completists take note: Sword of Orion, first of a series of novels set in the post-Oligarchy universe, and featuring sixteen-year-old Jerel Telmon is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

The audiobook edition of Lee and Miller's Local Custom, narrated by Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1), will begin shipping the week of June 27, and is now available for order from Buzzy Multimedia (http://www.buzzymultimedia.com).

I was checking through all your books on Amazon to make sure I had given marked them all as owned with appropriate star level to help future buyers decide, and found that I was missing a book. 'Agent of Chance' The except sounds very familiar though, and a close look at the cover picture at the top of the listing shows that it is indeed 'Agent of Change'.
I didn't see a place where a lowly customer could effectively poke at them, but you may have better access.

Hmm. That's not so good, is it? Thanks for pointing that out.

I used the so-called "correction" form. It is also possible for customers, it says here, to make a correction by writing to book-typos@amazon.com with the ISBN: 0441009913 and the correction.

Sometimes, Amazon doesn't get 'round to its correction forms for a decade or two, so if you, or any other helpful reader has a moment to ask them politely to put the title back to _Agent of Change_, I'd be appreciative. Squeaky wheel and all like that...
