Last month, the U.S. Congress got involved. Congressman Walter Jones, R-N.C., proposed legislation that would require states to form local parental advisory boards to weigh in on all new library books and non-textbook school books or risk losing federal funding.

Why? you ask. Read all about it here

OMFG. Because the highly qualified librarian is utterly "evil" and might choose books that *gasp* EXPAND the narrow confines of a child's mind? Heaven forbid they learn to think their own thoughts and make their own decisions. *head desk* I don't know why those innocent lambs are in public school anyway. Better to send them off to private school where they can be properly indoctrinated edumacated.

Oh, I'm not bitter or anything. Nope, not me.

*sighs* Why is this any more 'adult content' than the princess marrying the Prince and living happily ever after? *grrr*

If parents are so scared of what their children might find in a library, then it should be the same as with television or internet--go to the library *with* your children. Keep an eye out own what they are interested in and talk to them about it.
