A-Pottering We Go

As in years past, [livejournal.com profile] kinzel and I volunteered to help out with the Potter Party at the Children's Book Cellar last night. Ellen had pulled out all the stops: Attendees could choose wizard names, cut out plastic shrinkies, play word find and Harry Potter ad libs, and make their very own Snitch. There were door prizes and much merriment. We bugged out before the stroke of the magic hour, since I was already turning into a pumpkin -- which I find this morning was a Good Thing, as one of the guests fell ill. Fortunately, there were two nurses and two doctors present -- all in costume, which briefly confused the EMTs when they arrived with the Rescue.

One of the grand things about the Potterings we've been to is that so many of the adults are willing to play; to dress up as their favorite characters, to get their faces painted, and get into the whole Snitch-making thing. In my experience, it's rare to see this degree of public adult playfulness, outside of an SF convention.

Before the Pottering, the crew fortified themselves at the Freedom Cafe. This was our first time, but we'll be going back. [livejournal.com profile] kinzel had a meatloaf to die for, and I had a veggie quiche. Winterport Winery cranberry wine for him, pear wine for me. We did not partake of the orange cremesicle desert pie, but it looked scrumptious.

Two of our number were dressed in full regalia, and there was some serious hat envy going on. Today's icon is cut from a Polaroid picture of Rolanni modeling Ellen's hat.

For those with strong constitutions, there's a scary picture

This morning, it's back to work on the Liaden Universe(R) Companion, Volume One. We have two complimentary passes to the Maine Film Festival, which started yesterday. May have to figure out a way to work in a movie...
