I always read Jethri's surname as a variant spelling of "Gobelin" which is the name of a family in France famous for weaving tapestries. I never associated Jethri with "Jethro." I just took it at face value as constructed out of whole cloth. But linguistic drift from "Jeffrey" makes perfect sense.
