DragonCon Day Two
Saturday, September 3rd, 2005 08:51 am...and I feel like I've been here a week.
Much running about yesterday, trying to locate little things like the Exhibitors Hall (still haven't found the dealers' room), the art show and the room we were to be signing in. DragonCon is spread over three very large hotels and everything, as Jo Sherman cogently explained, is in the Other Hotel.
Eventually located the Meisha Merlin/Don Maitz booth, ably manned by Stephe Pagel, Lynn Swetz and baby Andrew, Janny Wurts, Don Maitz and Selina Rosen; and in short order also located Glennis at The Missing Volume booth.
ellayn was at our signing ahead of us, and a good thing, too. We had a fine time signing, talking and planning a Liaden Universe(R) party for tonight, then we all parted, the gathered Friends of Liad to go to dinner, we to find Stephe Pagel and go with him to meet our own dinner party, in the lobby of the Hyatt, which was full of people in costumes having their pictures taken by other people in costumes, and also by some folk not in costumes. Most irritating was a mundane in a sanded linen suit, who took numerous pictures of a young lady wearing a purple wig and not much else, with his cellphone. He was so completely uncool that I wanted to paste him one; happily, the young lady was engaged with her friends and appeared not to notice.
Our companions belatedly discovered, we went up the street to Ray's restaurant, where we sat five to dinner -- Stephe Pagel, Anne McCaffrey, Todd McCaffrey, Lea Day,
kinzel and me -- and enjoyed wonderful conversation, noisily, so it was good thing our waitress had the foresight to seat us at the backest table.
Some time later, we staggered back to the Hyatt's lobby, where the noise and crowd had increased by a factor of eight since before dinner, said our good-nights, found our hotel and collapsed.
Today, two signings and the Liaden Universe(R) party are on the schedule -- and, hey, maybe we'll find the dealers' room,, too.
