I have (alas) discovered a movie that surpasses Along Came Polly for Sheer Awfulness. Avoid at all costs What About Bob?. You have been warned.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] kinzel went in for his long-delayed first date with the oral surgeon. The surgery went surprisingly quickly; and I fear the recovery isn't going as fast as he would like. But we're both relieved to finally see some forward motion here. In the Original Plan(tm), the entire project was supposed to be nearing completion next month.

In writing news, the pub date for Sword of Orion has been put back from mid-October to mid-November. This is mitigated by the reason for the delay -- Mr. Ordover at Phobos Impact reports that pre-orders were so strong that a larger initial print-run was required.

Mr. Ordover extends his compliments to everyone who ordered early. He's professes himself amazed and gratified.

Apropos of nothing much, except a weird schedule over the last two days, which included two film adventures (not counting "Bob") -- The Full Monty, which I had a good time with, even though it was nothing like I had expected; and Cirque de Soleil's Journey of Man, which was ...amazing, and from which I have taken delivery of an epiphany:

I could, in only a slightly wildish dream, actually see Cirque de Soleil live! Yes! It's astonishing but true, and for some reason makes me feel quite giddy. The realization supported me -- nay, bouyed me -- during a long afternoon of rectifying SRM's books. That chore is behind me now. Might be tomorrow I'll be able to write.

If you come out to World Con in LA you could take a detour and go to Vegas where you'd have your choice of 4 different Cirque shows to see. I've seen three of them and I prefer O at the Bellagio. Its the water one. Mystere (Treasure Island) is okay, Ka (MGM Grand) was good. I didn't like it as much as O, but I saw it when they were previewing it so it wasn't quite polished yet. It's probably gotten better. Rumor has it Zumanity (New York New York) is risque, so I've avoided it :D

The likelihood that we'll get to WorldCon in LA is vanishingly small at this point, unfortunately.

However, I find that there are traveling Cirque troupes which occasionally visit Boston and Hartford. Also, Zumanity is playing in New York, and if I'm going to spend a couple hundred bucks on tickets for a show, adding on a train ride and an overnight in The City is trivial.

Ever notice how not having much disposable income opens wonderful possibilities? *g*
