Sun, and a ghostly half-moon high and wispy in a cloudless blue sky.

I spent an hour this morning totting up bills, looked at the total in the checkbook, and went outside to play in the garden. Laundry and dishes were done in due time; and the refrigerator soup for lunch turned out remarkably well, if I do say so myself. The backlog SRM filled orders have been paired up with their tracking slips, alphabetized and taken down to the office for filing the next time I'm bored.

I've got a couple of orders to fill, and some writing to do. It's being... difficult... to write -- I'm spending too much time hanging on the news wires, and the cat-mind wants to stutter and stew about Real World What-Ifs more than it wants to dream pleasant fantasy. Best take a yellow pad and a pen out to the cat garden and sketch in the dialogue for the next scene.

Last night, I heard a flight of geese fly past the kitchen window. I ran out onto the deck to see them on their way, but it was too dark to find their shadows against the sky. All I could hear was their voices, as they discussed flight plans among themselves...

It's a mark of your skill that even your LJ entries read like little stories.

You have been so industrious today--I'm envious. Everything takes so much effort here. I need to go check and see if Sword is an e-book or small press. W's BD is Wednesday, and I only have three things for him (a fourth planned but not yet acquired.)

Wave to the geese for me. I have lived in many states in my life, but never on the flight path of the wild geese...

Trouble is, there's 'way more to do than I'm doing, so I don't feel industrious at all.

I need to go check and see if Sword is an e-book or small press

Sword of Orion is paper, from Phobos Impact, which certainly qualifies as a small press -- But. The initial orders were larger than the ordered print run, so they had to do a last-minute increase, which means that the book won't be in stores until mid-November, rather than mid-October. Classic good news/bad news scenario.

Crystal Dragon, the ebook edition, is coming out from Embiid on October 1, which will be Very Cool, and also somewhat scary. I'm planning on spending some time under the desk.

I have lived in many states in my life, but never on the flight path of the wild geese...

Really? I thought Canada geese wintered in Texas? But I will definitely add your wishes to mine for the next flight.

Please give W our very best wishes for a Most Excellent Birthday!

Better than bad news, though. I think most fans will understand.

Hummm....I think hiding out for at least a week is probably a good idea. By then, the overall satisfaction of the book will have settled in. But you are going to get people who want you to rewrite the ending of this tale.

Apparently there are four flyways--Atlantic, Mississippi, Rocky Mountains and Pacific. So a stray goose or two might have zipped by, but it wasn't a big deal where I lived. We talked about birds in general migrating, but I have no memory of my mother ever saying which birds.

Now, she could probably tell me all of them. Back then, she was busy raising three daughters.

I did get to visit with a couple of Canada geese in Michigan--why they were there already, I have no clue, but they were in the harbor of Whitehall, and pretty much ruled the roost. The swans avoided them, and swans will usually challenge anything!

I will pass on your good wishes to W. At this rate, we may be spending his birthday evening in the pool...
