Christmas Tree Angers Gym Members

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Three women turned off by a pregnancy counseling service Christmas tree have canceled their memberships at a women-only gym in Kansas.

They quit Body Boutique, in Lawrence, last week after noticing that the tree in the lobby of the gym was decorated with plastic figures meant to represent fetuses.

Here's the rest of the story and the poll.

What boggles me most is that, according to the survey, 21% of people who hit on the survey button didn't think the display was inappropriate.

It was 18% ten minutes ago.

Never mind "inappropriate" -- the first words that came to my mind were, "Oh my God, how utterly tacky."

But not terribly astonishing. Lawrence has been a battleground for opposing cultural forces ever since the Bleeding Kansas days.

What I don't understand is why the anti-abortion organization (let's call a spade a spade!) thought this would be a productive way to further their cause. It's just another example of terrorist mentality.

I don't say that lightly, or because terrorism is such a buzzword these days. It genuinely carries, for me, the same feel as an act of terrorism: utterly incomprehensible how the perpetrator thinks anything good will come of their being hurtful to others.

I would call the spade "anti-choice" because they support terrorists who kill physicians, policemen, and cripple nurses in this country (in other countries they do far worse to control their women). They obviously aren't truly "pro-Life".
It was 22% when I visited, but I hope its because they've just got a few people voting over and over again...

*nods*

Very few, if any, "pro-life" organizations are entitled to that name.

Where do they find them?

I know it isn't central to the story or anything, but I do wonder where they found a plastics factory that makes plastic fetuses? It doesn't seem exactly like a mass market item?

I have this absurd little thought that somewhere they are stamped "Made in China" but that's just silly, isn't it?
