More on the Russian Editions
Monday, February 6th, 2006 04:40 pmAs reported earlier today by the intrepid
kinzel two Russian editions of Liaden Universe(R) novels have today come to our attention; the first by arriving physically in our mailbox, the second from the AST site.
The identity of the second book being something of a mystery -- no one here at the Confusion Factory reads Russian -- I turned to Babel Fish, from which I learn the following:
Local custom. Way of the intelligence officer
Humanity colonized hundreds of planets. Now in the galaxy side by side live, deal and war the descendants of earthlings - and "strangers". In this peace the love of the heir of the ancient, rich clan of merchants from the planet Of liaden and mud hut - occasion at the beginning of severe vendetta, which threatens to envelop ENTIRE GALAXY... From the peace - into the peace! From the danger - to the danger
Note to Self: Remember to name a planet Mud Hut in an upcoming Liaden adventure.

Date: 2006-02-06 02:47 pm (UTC)They do take awhile to arrive; indeed, the omnibus Local Custom/Way of the Intelligence Officer has yet to arrive. The first book hasn't gotten here yet, via Official Channels, though a friend of a friend who was traveling in Russia was kind enough to buy a couple copies for us.
The books themselves, when they do arrive, are Very Cool: Think the kid's book "hardcovers," with the art printed on the boards and protected by a layer of plastic. Slightly fragile, and lighter than they look.
Mud hut?
Date: 2006-02-06 04:20 pm (UTC)Oh, did you mention something about the house of Terrans? That could get transmogrified into Mud hut, I suppose.
You do realize that if you feed Mud Hut back into the cycle, the transmogrifier will probably go into chaotic convulsions, right?
Good on you! Go for it!

Date: 2006-02-06 04:33 pm (UTC)I'm also inordinately fond of: From the peace -- into the peace! From the danger -- to the danger! If nothing else, it's a great sig line...
