...fairly fraught. No. Unfairly fraught. The May bills were paid, and all that pesky money no longer obscures the pristine purity of the house checkbook. That's balance, I guess.

Spent some therapy time with the roses, cutting out dead stuff, raking, speaking Growing Words to the Lost Rose, which is trying one!more!time! to come in, brave heart.

Managed a page on The Nameless Story. Things are getting Deeply Weird. Do I want to know what space this story is coming from? Maybe not.

In the your-backbrain-is-your-friend department: Steve and I shared a late dinner and a glass of wine, and in the middle of talking about quite mundane things, I said, "Oh. Damn. That room has to be tile, not rock." And without missing a beat, Steve said, "Right. Then, it won't be able to use the irregularities in the rock."

I love living with another writer.

The joys of the day's mail included an advance check for the electronic edition of Quiet Knives. All things considered, we cashed it and bought groceries.

On the way back from the grocery, we stopped at the drug store, looked up into the sky and -- There! an eagle drifting lazily above the parking lot. He tipped a wing, caught a side draft going hisaway and was gone.

I don't know if I've mentioned the local fauna. We have a new neighbors down the road, and they've opted to keep animals. In this case, the animals are one cream-and-brown llama and four black-and-white alpacas. Today, they were all in their paddock as we drove out, the llama on his knees, looking like an abbot at his devotions; the alpacas like particularly flighty school girls in black jumpers and white stockings.

No progress today on The Nameless. No progress today on much of anything. But we do have groceries.
