Is it really worth forking over seven big ones to I-tunes so I can have...

In the Hall of the Mountain King
Danse Macabre
The Wolf's Theme
Anitra's Dance
Night on Bald Mountain
Arabian Dance
The Procession from Peter in the Wolf

...all on one disk?

Yes. :>
Where else would you get that selection all in one place?

I Tunes

As long as you have an extended warranty on your I Pod it is worth it. My adult kids love their pods, however, they don't last very long. The warranty at least replaces the unit and the back-up on the computer replaces their library. They really don't listen to FM anymore except NPR.

Actually, I'd be doing it the Old Fashioned Way and burning a CD. No I-Pods hereabouts...

Is 'seven big ones' $7? Can you actually get each of these from I-tunes for $1 (or is $.99) each?

The last time I went shopping at I-tunes (four-six months, maybe a year ago), the classical selection was abysmal! Has it improved?

In the Hall of the Mountain King
Danse Macabre

Two of my all-time favorites - I have at least two, maybe three, different versions of each on CD.

The Wolf's Theme

Is this the Peter and the Wolf Wolf's Theme?

Anitra's Dance

Isn't Peer Gynt wonderful?

Night on Bald Mountain

Another 'way up there on my favorites list' - and another multiple copies.

Arabian Dance

From The Nutcracker?

The Procession from Peter in the Wolf

Interesting typo there?

Actually, I think I have all of them already on CD. I'd end up taking them and making a compilation CD of my own. If you don't have them on CD, it's probably the most cost effective. Otherwise, you'd probably have to get at least four different CD's (I think getting Danse Macabre and Night on Bald Mountain would be fairly easy) - you'd be looking at $30 minimum. So, it's probably cost effective if you don't really want any of the other bits from Peer Gynt or The Nutcracker.

Seven big ones is indeed $7. And, as of this morning, yup, you could indeed buy all of those pieces of music from I-Tunes for ninety-nine cents the each.

I can't say how their selection of classics is overall, since I was just searching on particular pieces of music. I do note, however, that, whenever there was a jazz or popular cover of a particular piece available, those choices were rated higher.

I adore Danse Macabre and of course no collection of music-to-work-by is complete without Night on Bald Mountain. I had them -- and Peer Gynt, Nutcracker, and Peter and the Wolf -- on various bits of vinyl, but failed to supply myself with CDs when the vinyl-player went belly-up. I oughta do something about that...

In the meantime, I've been holding a CD called Fright Night in my wishlist for a little while, trying to decide if I want to compromise my principles -- it has the Danse, Bald Mountain, and In the Hall, along with other goodies, such as Funeral March of A Marionette, Tocotta and Fugue...,and Mephisto Waltz, but lacks the Wolf's Theme from Peter and the Wolf, which, IMHO, is One Scary Piece of Music and justly belongs on a CD of Scary Music.

Peer Gynt is Beyond Wonderful.

Arabian Dance
From The Nutcracker?

Sorry, no -- the Arabian Dance from Peer Gynt.

The Procession from Peter in the Wolf
Interesting typo there?

Ack! No, it's the DUCK in the Wolf, not Peter!

Peter and the Wolf

I'd have to go with Peter and the Wolf as the all time scariest music _I_ can recall hearing. That French Horn is wicked creepy. I listened to it on vinyl _way_ to much when I was little and had recurring nightmares that I blame on it. Now I have a version on CD narrated by Sean Connery.

Absolutely! those songs I think would make a great mix :) . . . . Though most cost effective would probably be to go to the library and see if they have those on CD. I know my local public library has a huge selection of classical music on CD.
