I'm currently reading Hammered by [livejournal.com profile] elizabethbear, and in general, I'm liking it a lot: illicit drugs and street gangs on the hellish streets of Hartford, Connecticut; a cyborg with more than one secret, or I miss my woman; a charming alien spacecraft that behaves something like a Clutch ship on Serious Speed -- what's not to like?

One thing -- not enough to ruin the book, unless things go desperately downhill in the last 90 pages -- but certainly enough to make me rap it sternly on the table more than once.

More crankiness behind the cut )

The air is thick with ...something... and tinged red on the horizon. Not as red as the night sky over the city of my birth, by any means, but -- disheartening, nonetheless.

This afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] kinzel and I motored on down to Augusta, had lunch at Panera and then picked up the ARCs for Liaden Universe Companion, Volume 1, which are Very Pretty Indeed. Came home via the post office in Unity and settled down to a little bit of writing before this evening's movie -- will it be "The Taming of the Shrew" (John Cleese!) or "Children of the Century"? A coin flip is obviously in order.
