The current day-gig is, um... less than mentally challenging, consisting of sitting behind a counter at the front door, logging in and out such pilgrims as may petition, answering the phone when it rings and routing the call to the appropriate live person or voice mail.

I am, however, allowed to amuse myself in-between performing these arduous duties. Yesterday, I amused myself to the tune of about 1400 hand-written words -- in which I forgot that Kate's cellphone is in her jacket pocket (yes, the same jacket that's back at the carousel and not at Kate's current location, but that's recoverable) -- and also read two-thirds of Murder with Peacocks.

Monday I'm taking Murder with Puffins, the writing I manage to get done this weekend, and (much hanging on that weekend's worth of writing) the yellow pad. For Tuesday, I've got The Man Behind the Iron Mask -- which I might be able to stretch over two days, depending on how dense it is. Which leaves me with [livejournal.com profile] jhetley's Dragon's Eye; [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's Blood and Iron; and Hope Mirrlees' Lud-in-the-Mist -- all of which I was sorta saving to read after Kate is out of my hair, which she will be ere August has faded, or I'll know the reason why. May have to take The Best of Myles and re-read favorite bits, though I do think I'm supposed to maintain some level of professional decorum when answering the phone.

Double Rainbow

So [livejournal.com profile] kinzel came in from emptying the dehumidifer, and said, "You've got to come out on the deck! There's a rainbow -- maybe even a triple rainbow."

The third bow was gone by the time I got outside...
