So, yesterday's ride took us north and east through a blue and white day of Amazing Clarity, until we had to stop, on account of there was an ocean.

I walked down to the end of the path at Schooner Head overlook and took some pictures, which are

Tide was coming in, so there was no time to look for the cavern that's supposedly down in those rocks somewhere.

Back at the overlook parking lot, [personal profile] kinzel and I shared a grocery store italian, then wandered back to town, where I took a few pictures of the working boats

and we watched in Amaze as the Whale, Puffin, Lighthouse Cat when out. I was pretty sure it was going to hit the working dock piled high with lobster traps that was directly behind it, but the Cats turn on slightly less than a dime -- pivoting in place like a wingnut on a screw. One of these days, Rolanni vows (as she has every dern year since she's been in the Maine), she will go on a whale watch cruise. Yesterday, however, was not the day.

I did not take a picture of the fiberglass whale, nor yet of the red-haired young lady on the business end of a chocolate ice cream cone, who engaged me in conversation while I was waiting for [personal profile] kinzel to conclude some necessary business. The young lady confided that there were a lot of people "from foreign countries, like Massachusetts" at the pier that day, and offered the information that she, herself, was from Maine. I was able to assert that I, too, was from Maine, though not as near to Mount Desert as she -- hailing from Ellsworth as she did -- and we got along famously.

The ride home took us through Bucksport, where [personal profile] kinzel had an interest in the progress of the new!improved! Penobscot Narrows Bridge, which is, um, impressive. Mind you, I loathe and fear the old suspension bridge (not it's fault; I came across it all unexpected on the way to interviewing a guy about a story for the newspaper (one moment, you're on a Perfectly Unexceptional Highway, the next, you're around a hairpin curve and fifty zillion feet in the air), one dark, rainy and windy afternoon, and those three minutes of absolute panic while I white-knuckled it across the bridge to the blessed solidity of Verona Island has forever colored my feelings for it) -- and the new one is Really!Big!And!Artistic! So tall, in fact, that one of the center towers will house an observation deck from which intrepid explorers may get an unobstructed view of the City of Helium.

We made a short stop at the Belfast Public Landing and walked down on the floating piers among the boats -- including Yet Another -- cruise ship, and so to home, where I camped out on the sofa and read, thus completing my day of Utter Decadence.

Today -- the filing, the end-of-month bookkeeping and perhaps a start on the as yet nameless story.

ETA:  Yes, I know the pictures aren't behind the advertised cuts, and I apologize in advance to everyone who will be offended by that, but there doesn't appear to be anything I can do about it right now.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know:

1. Is the worthiness of the book directly proportional to the mess made while it's being written?

2. Why was my driver's license mailed from Utah?

3. Where should I "file" the thing that doesn't fit in the file cabinet, but which, nonetheless, does need to be filed, and in a place where I won't forget where the damn' thing is?

4. Why don't people understand that bookstores can't stock books that don't exist (i.e. "Why don't the bookstores stock Book X in paperback?")?
