Independent Bookstore Needs Your Help!
In the beginning of 2006, Pandemonium Books moved from its (cramped-but-cool) location in Harvard Square (Boston) to Brand!New!Spacious! Quarters in Central Square, Cambridge. The move, as moves often do, took longer and was more expensive than forecast, and now, nine months after the new store's Grand Opening, Pandemonium is in trouble, with its debt load and back taxes placing it in double jeopardy.
In order to try to reduce its debt -- and pay off those back taxes! -- Pandemonium is offering supporters the chance to buy a t-shirt of month. If you don't wear t-shirts, or just don't want one, the store is also gratefully accepting donations via PayPal. Full details are here
Pandemonium Books and Games is one of a dwindling breed of independent SF bookstores. We'd hate to see them close, and not just because of their endangered species" credentials. OK, let's face it, we'd hate to see them close for some purely selfish reasons. Over the years we've been made very welcome there by Tyler, Phil, Julia, Spike, Ruth and other staff members as well as by an active community of readers. Pandemonium's crew helped us through some slim times in the past by taking us out to dinner after a signing ... and they've also taken us out to dinner, breakfast and lunch -- and supplied is with rides in and around Boston for a number of signings, just because they could. They went out of their way to carry our books and chapbooks at a time when Lee & Miller were not the household names we are today.... This is not just another bookstore, folks -- they value writers and they love books. So, here's your chance to help Pandemonium break out! Please consider lending them a little support.
Thanks!
