rolanni: (the kids)
Korval's Legacy, which bundles the first five Liaden Universe(R) novels is now available for sale from Baen Webscriptions.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sraun for the heads up!

I hate to pack.

Just sayin'.

Here in Beautiful Central Maine, after a day of Pretty Constant Snow(tm), we are now experiencing -- mixed sleet and snow. We have yet to have our promised thunderstorm, but hope has not withered in this Mainer's breast.

Those who have been reading along with Fledgling, please be aware that there will not (that's not) be a new chapter posted on this coming Monday, February 19. Authors' Traveling Rule is in force. Look for Chapter Five at noon EST, Monday February 26, same time, same bat channel.

Or something.

A small piece of business for those who knew the late and still lamented Vicki Brown. As y'all will recall, Vicki was a major fan of the Brett Cameron books, also known as the Foreigner triple trilogy, by CJ Cherryh. We know because every time a new "Brett" was published, Vicki would send us a copy. I knew she was truly ill when the publication of Pretender brought no chortles of joy from a Certain Party on the Friends of Liad list.

Without Vicki to remind me, I'm a couple days late with the news that Deliverer, the ninth book in the series, is now available. I'm sure that there's a a shady tree near the Other Side of the Rainbow Bridge, and under sits a woman surrounded by the manymany creatures who bounded with her across her lifetime; she's reading a book. And she's smiling.

Name that mammal

rolanni: (walk in the snow)
There's an animal on the deck, eating birdseed -- well, it had been eating birdseed, but we disturbed it, trying to figure out what the hotel it was, and now it's sitting in the dead tree we have strapped to the corner of the deck to make the birds happy.

At first, I thought it was a rat -- it's about that size -- then I saw the tail and thought it was a red squirrel, except it didn't make any sense for a red squirrel to be out in the pitch black depths of a blizzard. Then, we got a good look at its face and eyes -- night-seeing eyes and rounded ears -- absolutely without fear, even when [livejournal.com profile] kinzel opened the door and chucked a handful of snow at it.

I'm thinking it's a young fisher, but that's a guess solidly rooted in ignorance. Whatever it is, it's gonna freeze to death if it stays up in a bare, dead tree all night.
