rolanni: (flittermouse)
There was a bat doing laps in the History and English halls late Thursday afternoon, working itself, unfortunately, into a Serious Panic. My counterpart in English called our long-suffering Physical Plant Department to escort it out. They hadn't arrived by the time I left; but obviously something happened between then and Friday morning. My hope is that the little guy remembered how he'd gotten in and slipped away.

I like bats. An opinion not shared by most of the other people on the halls.

In other news, I've been doing bookkeeping and updating databases like a Mad Woman, to catch up all the stuff I let slide in the end-of-year day-job craziness and the finishing up of Longeye, which is not yet turned in, BTW -- but soon.

I have updated the Saltation front page to reflect the fact that there are now only 526 books looking for a home. Things continue to shake out on the Fledgling front as well. If you missed subscribing, it's worth dropping me a note at fledglingATkorval.com (where @ replaces AT) to find out if there are any book futures available.

I still have two months -- or is it three? -- of bank statements to rectify for SRM and the house accounts, but, hey, progress has been made.

The day-job has now gone to Summer Hours, and not a moment too soon. One of the things I'll be thinking about, now that I almost have time to do so, is how to make life more manageable, and, yanno, more fun. I cannot do another year where my life consists of going to work and sitting in front of a computer for 7 hours, then coming home and sitting in front of a computer for 5 hours so that I can look forward to the weekend, when I can do a couple of solid 8-10 hour stretches in front of the computer. I'm just not one of those people who thrives in the white heat of constant productivity. Yes, I'm a grasshopper. So sue me.

For the curious among us (and to serve as a reminder to myself) the writing schedule currently stands at:

Continuing: Saltation, one chapter a week, except as noted*
September 15, 2008: Fledgling final due at Baen
November 1, 2008: SRM Yule chapbook to printer, containing 2 original stories
*December 15, 2008: Saltation final due at Baen
June 1, 2009: Untitled sequel to Scout's Progress due at Baen
