The weather, it was rainy.

The book signing was small-but-lively, at Children's Book Cellar, our local independent bookstore, in celebration of the release of Liaden Universe® Companion Volume Two. After, Steve and I went across the street to Midnight Blues, where the music went just fine with lunch. We ran into our friend Jean while we were there and caught up on some fannish doin's, including news of a Pratchett con to be held in September 2009, and yes, Jean's on the committee, a distance of 2,000 miles being the merest bagatelle in con-running fandom.

Replete, we wandered up Main Street to Al Corey's Music Store, where Steve considered guitars, and guitar lessons, while I lusted briefly after an electric piano.

Back to the car and up the road, then, Dave Brubeck on Argent's CD player, arriving through gridlock at Home Despot, where we handily acquired a space heater for the bathroom, so Rolanni doesn't have to break the ice on the shower in the morning before she steam-blasts herself into consciousness, and a string of blue LED twinkle lights to replace the half-burned-out white string now in place 'round the top of the kitchen cabinets. The single string, I realize belatedly, may be too short, but there's undoubtedly another trip to Home Despot in my future, anyway...

To home, finally, and damply, we discovered that the mailman had left a Large Envelope from [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia, which proved to be full of the German edition of Carpe Diem, and a smaller envelope also from [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia, which contained the check related to the German editions.

This, children, is how it Ought to be Done.

Now, having had a brief nap, and snurgled cat belly, perhaps I will see if that string of lights is too short, after all.

All in all, it's been a Good Day.

And hoping yours was the same.

The smoke is so much better today, but not everywhere. My two sisters in SD (back home and houses standing) are fighting soot and ashes. But Temple City is breathing better. There is going to be a moving picture of a firefighter in tomorrow's San Diego Union Tribune in an ad from the Scripps Hospital thanking the rescue workers. I saw the preview and wow.

I got my (signed) copy in the mail today--woot! I think I'm going to have to save it, though, for my birthday next week. Practically perfect timing, so thanks!

KoKo was here about a month ago at our Big Spring Jam and she puts on a great live show even with her health issues. Wang Dang Doodle was her next to last song...

Does that mean I should be getting my pre-ordered copy soon? I was just thinking about writing to ask where it was.
