In so-called Real Life...
I have a letter from Congresscritter Tom Allen, telling me how to go about getting a permit to take pictures in Boston South Station. This permit is free of charge. Mr. Allen apologizes for the long delay in responding to my concern, provides telephone numbers for Responsible Individuals at BSS, dances neatly around the whole "illegal" issue, and asks my understanding for Security Staff under stress due to high terror alerts. A class act, in many ways. Note to Self: Vote for Tom, should he be idiot enough to run again.

On the Getting Healthy Front, a pound mooched off while I wasn't paying attention, which puts me at 154. It'd be nice to ease all the way back to 150, but I can live with the current number. Unfortunately, this does mean that most of my clothes are 'way too big, including all my "good" denim shirts. I took care of the jeans problem before Trinoc*CoN, and bought a couple of shirts that fit to eke me through WorldCon. Otherwise, I'm thinking that the Little Orphan Annie look is good to go.

Mozart continues to object to brushing. Since he's a Maine Coon, this objection cannot be allowed to weigh, of course, but he's such a sweet-natured cat in general that his cursing the brush and the hand that wields it is ...peculiarly upsetting.

And -- it's past one o'clock. Since it's my turn to cook dinner, I guess I'd better get to it.

Yay for Maine Coons! We have one... well, at least, he's 90% Maine Coon at the very least, given his size, coloring, level of fluff, temperment... and he too objects to being forcibly groomed, but since he otherwise gets horrible tats and then has to have them cut free... either way, he objects. Go figure.

Could he be objecting to the brush? Have you tried one with a different type of bristles? Or maybe one of those rubber ones would be less objectional to him. Does he dislike being stroked? If that isn't the problem, maybe you could try one of those grooming gloves with a built-in brush - he'll think he being petted when he's actually being brushed.

Mozart is a Snuggle Slut (he's sitting on my lap right now, with his chin resting on my arm, purring). He adores having his belly rubbed, his back stroked, his chin skritched and his whiskers twiddled. Brushing, though -- uh-uh.

We've tried steel pin brushes, plastic and metal combs, and the rubber Zoom Groom brushes. He repudiates them all. And the horse they rode in on. I can -- and do -- Insist, but it's not pretty. Yesterday, he actually nailed me -- I think he was more surprised than I was, and so ashamed he took himself down to the basement for a couple hours.

I'm going to give a grooming glove a try. If that doesn't work... Well, I'll be seeing his breeder at WorldCon and will put the question to her...
