I think my aunt has that series of books; next time I talk to her I'll ask her. She rereads them avidly. (She reads constantly and re-reads books over and over and over.)
And yes, they're funny, but to a Woman of a Certain Age, they're not JUST comedies. They're uplifting comedies, if you will. Hysterical, but the women prevail and that's the *point.* Or perhaps it's a different series.
Miss Marple would be such a story written serious, albeit in a different genre, yes?
