Don't imagine Mrs. Pollifax (Emily Pollifax, the author is DOROTHY Gilman) went up on the roof with anything like any reasoned idea of possibly jumping off. She was taking care of her potted geraniums. But it suddenly just seemed pointless. She has since then gained LOTS of purpose in life, plus a husband, assorted kind of "adopted godchildren," and a CIA boss with more gray hairs after each book ;-)
