1. I remember, years ago, being told by a Well-Meaning Person of the Feminist Persuasion that it was degrading for a woman to be a secretary.

2. Thanks for all the comments on the web serialization post.

3. We have Longeye cover flap copy to go over, so, the book can't be far behind!

4. Trying to use iGoogle to get organized. I used to be organized. Wonder what happened there?

5. Been late for work every day this week. Going for five and five.

LOL - a comment obviously made by a women who'd never BEEN or truly MET a secretary - you wanna talk power? *grin*

NEVER annoy a secretary - whether you're a boss or a visitor... it's really *really* bad idea...

(an ex-secretary, a VERY good one, and VERY proud of it! *grin*)

Since it is presumably equally demeaning for a person of any type to be a secretary, that form of employment should obviously be completely abolished, thus forcing managers and politicians to have to write their own rubbish. I therefore approve *g*.

However, I notice that some of the most powerful people in the world have the title 'secretary'. I think of the UN's Secretary General, the various Secretaries of State(s), the positions of private secretary to heads of corporations...

(I read "flap copy" as a phrase, and thought instead of birds doing synchronised flying...)

RE: point #1... okay, this got long.

Harumph!! According to my mother, whose own mother was a working mother back in the 40's!, women like that are just playing at being feminists and don't actually understand the concept. She has always maintained that being a feminist means empowering all women to do and be what they want and need to be whether that is to be a stay-at-home mother (which I did for 10 years, until I left my husband, now I work from home), a wife who stays home to support her husband, or a woman who works at a job in any capacity.

The important thing is for all of these women to be supported and those who receive pay for their work to receive commiserate pay for commiserate work. She is for choice for everyone... regardless (okay, except those who would inflect violence or trying to bind up someone else's choice etc).

I was raised to believe that everyone should be able to change a diaper, cook at least one meal, change a tire & check car fluids, use basic tools, start & put out a fire, work w/wiring etc etc etc regardless of gender.

Degrading to be a secretary?? Good grief! What is degrading is the secretary's boss who is taking advantage of the secretary and the secretary who does nothing about it when they have options to do so. (There are situations when that's the only job they have available and they've got to feed the kids, but that's another story.) WMPotFP needs to just get on the stick and go forth to make programs to help get free therapy available to women who need it to be able to be proactive in situations where someone is taking advantage of them. Harumph!! Thus sayeth the Kat.
