rolanni: (walk in the snow)
[personal profile] rolanni
Came home to find that my desk had been tossed, my writing notes and the pages-in-progress for Mouse and Dragon scattered all over (and I do mean all over the office.

The cats didn't notice an intruder, they say. They were sleeping.

It is snowing like a sonofagun, which made the trip home from work...a lot more interesting than it strictly needed to be. I can't figure out what's with Binjali's steering. It's like the wheels turn at slight different times-or-angles, a trait that's particularly noticeable -- and dangerous -- in the snow. As long as I drive in a straight ling, everything's cool All I need to do is find a route to and from work that doesn't involve corners and I'm all set...

I suspect a great circle route would take to long.

The next comment is literal not figurative. Have somebody check the nut behind the wheel and the rest of the steering linkages.

About the tossed desk, are there any suspicious paw prints?

Although your cats may not usually get up on your desk, I know from experience that they can become infected with a sudden urge to chase each other (the 'elephant in the upstairs hallway' syndrome is what I call it). while they may not want to admit it, when this mood strikes, anything goes.

Reminds me of a time that I had a tie rod go bad. I ignore it until it actually broke – LOL, can’t ignore that.
Maybe a front end alignment? You hit anything lately (big pot hole / curb)

You may want to get your differential checked. The wheels need to turn at different speeds when you are turning, otherwise you would only be able to drive in a straight line. My car started not wanting to turn or turning more than I was expecting and we checked all sorts of linkage with the steering but it was the differential. It starts off pretty random and hard to describe to your mechanic but if that's your problem you don't want to mess around. It was pretty extreme on one occasion. I turned right out of a junction and half way through the turn the wheels flipped and flung the car violently to the left, mounted the curb (I live in UK so drive on the left) but thank goodness there was no one walking on the pavement otherwise it could have been really nasty. I'd already taken my car in twice by then and had the universal joint replaced and the steering rack replaced before they figured it out.

Can't really avoid potholes in winter in Maine. And! earlier this winter I did slide off the road into an ice-and-snow bank.

Poor little car; it's more than 10 years old and all it really wants to do is retire to Florida...

Also if it is a front wheel drive car in slippery conditions when one front wheel or the other spins the car will pull to the side of the wheel that is not spinning.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one that uses the phrase "herd of elephants" to describe the surprising large amount of noise made by generally quiet cats when overcome with a case of "chase".
