One Down

Not much doing today. Slept in, had a wonderful, Steve-created breakfast, wrote, took a short walk through the slowly-melting, dusty landscape. Man, it was a hard winter on the trees. Lunch was a sort of modified refrigerator soup, incorporating the leftovers from last night's dinner at Cacciatore's, mmmmmm. Then more writing, some washing of dishes, and a little more writing, just to keep my hand in. The glamor, it never ends.

Unless something goes Seriously Wrong, I'm going to crack forty grand on Mouse and Dragon tomorrow, which means it's time to print out what I have and give it a read. Granting the amount of ground we have to cover in this book, I'm looking at a three-part structure. Tomorrow's work should get me to the end of the first section. All things considered, I think this is going to be a slightly bigger book than we had envisioned. We usually assume 100,000 words as a base; I'm thinking this one will be closer to 150,000/175,000. I'll keep the progress meter at 100,000 for the time being, for the sake of consistency. I'm more interested in words-written than words-left, anyway.

Before I forget: A note for fans of Patricia Wrede -- she now has a webpage (yay!), so we can all keep track of her comings and goings, new publications and on-dits. Check it out here

"Does this tree," she asked dreamily, "speak to you?"

Well, and that was no time lost, he thought.

"It speaks to all of us," he told her, and added, with Kareen in his mind, "though some listen less closely than others."

BIG book, YAAAYYYY!!

I get the notion from the snippet that maybe they are sitting somewhat cuddled at the base of the Tree. That is a pleasant thought. With a couple of pods to nibble?

In spite of cons, snowstorms, day job, etc. it seems to me that you are making very speedy progress. This is wonderful, in my of course biased view!
