rolanni: (Yay!)

Oh, about that stuff going on in the background?

The stuff I couldn't tell you about?

Well!

Now I can tell you.

First, a little background: Earlier in the year, Ace announced that it would be reprinting ten (10!) Liaden Universe® novels in mass market format. Agent of Change and Conflict of Honors were, in fact, reprinted. It was then that the chains said that they didn't want no stinkin' reprints -- and Ace pulled the eight remaining novels from the publication schedule.

There was No Joy in Mudville, nor in Central Maine, nor yet, in Solcintra.

But! In the background, unbeknownst to you, though knownst to us, [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia, aka Madame the Agent, was working both hard and smart, with the result that Ace reverted the reprint rights to The Authors. Which meant the books were now free to be marketed Elsewhere.

With the result that. . .

Baen Books has acquired reprint rights to ten Liaden Universe® novels, to be published en omnibi, as follows:

Omnibus One: Local Custom, Scout's Progress, Conflict of Honors
Omnibus Two: Agent of Change, Carpe Diem
Omnibus Three: Plan B, I Dare
Omnibus Four: Crystal Soldier, Crystal Dragon, Balance of Trade

Omnibus titles and publication dates TBA.

There! Now wasn't that worth waiting for?

Oh, wow. That's great news! Congratulations!

YES!!! We increase!!!!!!!

Now to wait and see if they're going to show up as bday pressies or Christmas pressies and when. ::curls down into the cross-legged position that she can only do here anymore and puts chin on hand::

[identity profile] ailsaek.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh cool. I shall have to get Adam Omnibus 4, and my mom Omnibus 1.

[identity profile] lornastutz.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Great, I've got copies that are wearing out and will soon need to be replaced. WONDERMOUS!

I bow in respect to your most awesome agent. Agents like that are worth many times their own weight in gold.

This is wonderful news.

[identity profile] jl-johnson.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's great news.

I bet that was nerve wracking at times. Glad to hear everything worked out. :)

[identity profile] missingvolume.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats!

YEAH!!!!!!

[identity profile] maiaarts.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That is what I am talking about!!!! I have been trying to get people into your universe and I am wearing out my books! Thank god for Duane and the UBookstore! I will be nicer to him when these come out - then I can send many more people to buy buy buy! I adore the Universe.

I hope, that this might mean you could have (ah hem) really good audio books made of the Agent of Change and onwards... with someone who can do accents and pronounce words really well :}

[identity profile] e-booklover.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats!

[identity profile] kay-gmd.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] groblek.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, you beat me to it!. :)

Seriously, this is very shiny.

[identity profile] melibabe.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome! This is going to make it SO much easier to introduce new friends to the Liaden Universe. :D :D

[identity profile] liadan-m.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
WAHOO!!!!!

Ahem.

MORE LENDING COPIES!!!

(in the past couple of days, I have unpacked the boxes of paperbacks to the bookshelves. I am up to: 2 AoC, 2 LC, 1 SP, 2 ID, 2 PB, 2 Carpe, 2 CoH, 2 Crys. sets, 1 BoT, 4 Pilot's Choice, and 6 Partners in the catalog. Most of those are out on loan and are showing serious wear. Replacements!)

Wow !

[identity profile] chaddai.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome, now I'll be able to read again your work on proper paper books ! Thanks from me to the hard-working agent, she's great. :)

[identity profile] drumiller.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! More addiction copies, I mean lending copies.

Will there Baen webscription e-formats available? I love my HC MM versions, but the cats have lobbied for lighter weight sleeping platforms.

[identity profile] shana.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The webscription books are available now.

[identity profile] drumiller.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, how embarrassing. My navigation skills must be horrible, thought that the last time I'd looked there weren't any.

Well yay, two good pieces of news in one day. Now I can go die of mortification in the corner...

[identity profile] rolanni.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I can go die of mortification in the corner...

No, wait! Buy the ebooks first!

[identity profile] drumiller.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha.

I'll probably buy both once the budget allows, since I'm loathe to lend out my signed copies.

Fierce kudos to your agent, and high praise to Baen - who, you should know, has had Barflies lobbying on your behalf for some years now.

And major Best Of Literary Luck to you both.

Excellent!

Will the omnibi be trade paper or hardback?

Will the omnibi be trade paper or hardback?

When I know, you'll know, though I expect trade paper.

(Anonymous) 2009-07-30 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
A second, third (can't forget the 'yea') thought, why not have Baen expand the omnibi to 5 or 6, by including the Liaden stories from the chapbooks in appropriate timeline spots?

...because it would make Toni pull her hair out? And she has such pretty hair...

[identity profile] pakwa26.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, my copies are getting a little ragged, so omnibi will be very welcome. Massive kudos to Baen, who obviously know a good thing when they see it, and yah boo sucks to Ace, and a big fat round of applause to your agent, but tell her to get right onto the Chap Book idea. She won't have much else to do now :-)))

[identity profile] kinzel.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But, but, you can already get lots of collected stories direct from SRM Publisher. About 300,000 words worth of them.

There is not enough "YAY!" in the world to cover this announcement!

[identity profile] doccolt.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!! Now how about signed copies? PLEASE?!!

(Anonymous) 2009-07-31 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Hooray! Now I can buy copies for my children; my books are getting a bit worn. I read and re and re and re read so.....time for back up copies too.
And it couldn't happen to a nicer, better pair of authors.

(Anonymous) 2009-07-31 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Having purchased the Ebook versions, I carry them on my Palm with me. When I'm stuck waiting for a backup to finish, or a client to wander by, Val Con & Miri & Crew keep me occupied.

I do think the Ebook version of Balance of Trade felt more complete than the MM version. Are they identical, and my memory is starting to scatter like kittens in a yarn store?

However, dead tree versions prevent the "Battery Is Low-HAHA" messages. :)

Murgy

Hurrah!! I like introducing friends to new reading addictions. Cheers to nice agent lady.

BAEN is the BEST!!!

(Anonymous) 2009-07-31 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Baen is officially now my very favorite publishing house. Boy are they smart to know a wonderful thing when they see it. I hope the Plan B and I Dare omnibus comes out first or very soon because my copy of I Dare is getting really really ragged from rereading. Congratulations!

Anne

Congrats

Power to the writers.

I stumbled across Duainfey three months ago. The only sf&f in the store I hadn't read. Needless to say I loved it. Having been a long time purchaser of webscriptions, I hurriedly pick up Longeye and devoured it. Much to my surprise, these "new" authors had been around for a while and had quite a bit of work to their names. HURRAH!! I still don't know how you two managed to escape my attention these past thirty years but I'm exceedingly glad to have found you at last. Unfortunately, due to Baen bundling your earlier works, I have now caught up with the rest of your admiring public. I'll have to wait as everyone else does for the next glimpse into the Liaden Universe. Thanks for a very enjoyable three months of reading!
p.s. I've found your blogs make for very good reading too. Thanks for sharing.

And there was great rejoicing

YAYYY!!!
