Oh, about that stuff going on in the background?
The stuff I couldn't tell you about?
Well!
Now I can tell you.
First, a little background: Earlier in the year, Ace announced that it would be reprinting ten (10!) Liaden Universe® novels in mass market format. Agent of Change and Conflict of Honors were, in fact, reprinted. It was then that the chains said that they didn't want no stinkin' reprints -- and Ace pulled the eight remaining novels from the publication schedule.
There was No Joy in Mudville, nor in Central Maine, nor yet, in Solcintra.
But! In the background, unbeknownst to you, though knownst to us,
arcaedia, aka Madame the Agent, was working both hard and smart, with the result that Ace reverted the reprint rights to The Authors. Which meant the books were now free to be marketed Elsewhere.
With the result that. . .
Baen Books has acquired reprint rights to ten Liaden Universe® novels, to be published en omnibi, as follows:
Omnibus One: Local Custom, Scout's Progress, Conflict of Honors
Omnibus Two: Agent of Change, Carpe Diem
Omnibus Three: Plan B, I Dare
Omnibus Four: Crystal Soldier, Crystal Dragon, Balance of Trade
Omnibus titles and publication dates TBA.
There! Now wasn't that worth waiting for?
Well!
Now I can tell you.

Now to wait and see if they're going to show up as bday pressies or Christmas pressies and when. ::curls down into the cross-legged position that she can only do here anymore and puts chin on hand::

I bet that was nerve wracking at times. Glad to hear everything worked out. :)

MORE LENDING COPIES!!!
(in the past couple of days, I have unpacked the boxes of paperbacks to the bookshelves. I am up to: 2 AoC, 2 LC, 1 SP, 2 ID, 2 PB, 2 Carpe, 2 CoH, 2 Crys. sets, 1 BoT, 4 Pilot's Choice, and 6 Partners in the catalog. Most of those are out on loan and are showing serious wear. Replacements!)
Wow !

Will there Baen webscription e-formats available? I love my HC MM versions, but the cats have lobbied for lighter weight sleeping platforms.

Well yay, two good pieces of news in one day. Now I can go die of mortification in the corner...

No, wait! Buy the ebooks first!

I'll probably buy both once the budget allows, since I'm loathe to lend out my signed copies.

And major Best Of Literary Luck to you both.

(Anonymous) 2009-07-31 01:14 am (UTC)(link)I do think the Ebook version of Balance of Trade felt more complete than the MM version. Are they identical, and my memory is starting to scatter like kittens in a yarn store?
However, dead tree versions prevent the "Battery Is Low-HAHA" messages. :)

Congrats
I stumbled across Duainfey three months ago. The only sf&f in the store I hadn't read. Needless to say I loved it. Having been a long time purchaser of webscriptions, I hurriedly pick up Longeye and devoured it. Much to my surprise, these "new" authors had been around for a while and had quite a bit of work to their names. HURRAH!! I still don't know how you two managed to escape my attention these past thirty years but I'm exceedingly glad to have found you at last. Unfortunately, due to Baen bundling your earlier works, I have now caught up with the rest of your admiring public. I'll have to wait as everyone else does for the next glimpse into the Liaden Universe. Thanks for a very enjoyable three months of reading!
p.s. I've found your blogs make for very good reading too. Thanks for sharing.
And there was great rejoicing
