Does that work?

We've had success with it.

When Steve and I were moving to Maine, he was driving the rental truck, with Arwen as his co-pilot, and I was following in Bandit the Beretta, with Brandee in the cat carrier in the back and Archie riding shotgun.

We pulled over at a rest stop, had a sandwich, stretched our legs; Steve visited with "my" cats, I paid my respects to Arwen (like she cared), then we got back in our respective vehicles. Steve pulled out, I followed; Archie looked around and -- went nuts!

Good Ghod, Woman, what are you thinking? Pull over! Pull over NOW! WE LEFT STEVE OUT THERE!

At that point, I hit the CB, got Steve on, explained the problem. He called Archie's name, told him everything was cool, chatted about the Orioles (Archie was a big Birds fan), and -- Archie calmed down. He considered the radio, nuzzled it, purred, curled up on the passenger's seat and relaxed, slit-eyed.

The apparent thought process was that everything was OK, because Steve was Inside The Thing. As Steve was well-known among cat-kind for pulling off Strange Maneuvers, this was accepted as Just Like Him, and Comforting, and I heard no more about it.
