(well, a calendar suggests that they're 60 & 59, but that's beside the point.

I don't know when I started reading SF; I think Xanth was my first adult book (Ogre, Ogre) and I was maybe-10?

heh. i'm about 10 yrs older than you, and the first 3 sf books i ever read were Snow Queen, A Spell for Chameleon, and Dragonflight.

I didn't read Pern until much later. I read Clarke, Asimov, & Heinlein too young because they were on the shelf. Also a lot of stuff that walked the line between New Age and Fantasy (Richard Bach, um... "Oversoul Seven.")
