Some While Back, Google decided that All Your Books Belong to Us, and undertook to digitize the world, with the stated intent of making all books everywhere available to anyone, for free, or for a fee to Google. They were stunned and dismayed when authors and their reps rose up and said, Hell, no! We own those rights, and those books are still earning!
Google said Fine, if you don't want us to digitize your book, it's your responsibility to tell us not to. The whole thing got very ugly and went to court, and Judge Chin ultimately rejected Google's arguments. Here's an article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/23/technology/23google.html
