George no more

The book under construction, previously known as “George” puts forth the following title-like title:  Necessity’s Child.

Yes, it’s quite close to Calamity’s Child, but it fits the story, and  I like the idea of  there being a poem somewhere in the Liaden Universe® comparable to “Monday’s Child.”  May have to work on that, in my abundant spare time.

Anyhow! Therefore! and unless something Even More Perfect should manifest between Now and Then, The Book Formerly Known as George is now officially Necessity’s Child, and shall henceforthwardly be referred to by that title.

In other news, “The Space at Tinsori Light,” which I had hoped to have up by October 12…may not make it by that date, due to Excessive Amounts of Life.  And the fact that “Tinsori Light” has a really intricate backstory, and slipping in backstory without resorting to infodumping is delicate, time-consuming work.  Thank you all for your patience.  We’ll get there, eventually.

PS I'm re-reading The Unknown Ajax by G Heyer and wondering what we
do now that we no longer have 'genteel' smuggling. Arms and drugs and humans

I don't know, at some point it will want to be written with some kind of weird symbol instead of a proper name and then everyone will start calling it The Book Formerly Known As George - and finally, when you've made everyone call it Calamity's Child - it'll be published as George after all!! And all the PR to make it known as only The Book Formerly Known As George will have been in vein...

Now is TBFKAG or Necessity's Child concerned about it's appearance (aka vain) or the product of that well-known writer's advice to just sit down and open a blood vessel (aka vein)? Perhaps when it finally shyly appears on the ebook lists and brick-and-mortar shelves of the world, it will bear the gnomon of "Necessity's Child, also known as George?" After all, as most Turtles will assure you, names grow and change, and it seems quite likely that the child of Necessity might follow a similar melant'i. Eh?

A gnomon casts a shadow larger than itself, much as a name does, right? Although the wall of the cave sometimes seems rather complicated, while a sundial is usually quite simple.

I'm willing to compromise on the book title as follows:

Works for me! I see I managed to stumble over the wrong "it's" while I was being clever, too. And I forgot the other vane... just windy? It's actually kind of amusing how the meaning shifts if we use the other homonyms... I'm not sure if it's a misspelling or an interesting variation :-)

This flexibility is one of the things I like best about the English language - you can rarely change the meaning of a word just slightly if you do it in German - if you replace a word, it usually is with a totally different word.

Makes our humor work in a totally different way, where language is concerned (slapstick, of course, works everywhere).
