IMO, she's a master of language and dialects in the telling of a story, as are you.

Just loved it. The atomosphere in C.J. Cherryh's books is very different that that of the authors. Kind of forbidding and challenging for the lone human who has to deal with those alien people. My other favorite author.

Love that you and Steve are enjoying Georgette Heyer - her stories always end up making me laugh out loud repeatedly. :-)

As a linguist of sorts, I love the series' take on how language reflects culture, and the spin that Ms Cherryh puts on it by having aliens who ALMOST think like us. Being competent but by no means gifted at mathematics, I am fascinated by a species for whom math seems innate. Toss in some alien, yet almost familiar, biological imperatives, and wheeeee!

Have you ever tried her murder mysteries? They're mostly in print now, and the ones I've read (not many, so far, but some) are pretty good.
