New Story at Splinter Universe!
Steve and I have been ignoring Splinter Universe as we took care of some other things, professional and private, that had kind of gotten piled up.
We're still super busy, and can't promise a story every week, or even every month, but! we couldn't let the Summer Solstice go by without giving y'all a beach story.
This one's set in Surfside, the next town up from Archers Beach, familiar to those of you who've read Carousel Tides* -- and every word is absolutely true!
Of course.
Here's your link to Emancipated Child.
Enjoy! And if you like the story, please consider donating by clicking the PayPal button at the bottom of the page.

Love the Theo Waitley character. I just reread Fledgling thru Ghost Ship last month in anticipation.
a "nexus of violence" indeed! What a great phrase.

I am myself fascinated by the ocean, and tend to gravitate toward towns like Old Orchard Beach, and Rockland, and Belfast.
Rockland hosts a number of Events, if you like Events. Stuff like the Windjammer Parade, the Maine Lobster Festival, and the Blues Festival. There's a listing here: http://www.maine.info/cities/rockland/events.php
Belfast hosts the Maine Celtic Celebration: http://www.mainecelticcelebration.com/
...and the HarborFest: http://www.belfastharborfest.com/
There's more, but the town is really lousy about keeping up the calendar, so you have to exercise a little Google-foo.
The Maine Tourism Department has a pretty good statewide calendar here: http://www.visitmaine.com/search/list/event/?real=0&tag=243¢roid_class=event
If you just like to drive around and See Stuff, then, yanno, pick a direction -- it's all good.

The last time I was in Maine it was for an all day Yarn Crawl with friends who had a map of most, if not all, the yarn shops in Maine. As much fun as that was, I'm looking to broaden my horizons a bit this trip.
