1.  "Landed Alien," a short story about Kara ven'Arith is this month's Free Story on the Baen website (you need to scroll down).  It will be available there until September 15, and then be retired to the Free Library.

2.  Dragon Ship, the fourth book of Theo Waitley, is now available from Baen in the ebook format of your choice.

3.  Geek Girl Project continues their Books for Writers series with a review of Carpe Diem, by Lee and Miller.

4.  Necessity's Child is not (that is NOT) the sequel to Dragon Ship.  Since it is already written, turned in, and scheduled for publication -- three conditions that the sequel(s) to Dragon Ship do not at this time meet -- it is Extremely Doubtful that we will "tell our publisher" to release the sequel next.  Sorry 'bout that.

4a.  Necessity's Child is actually a darn good book; I like it, and a handful of other folks who read SF, including James Burton, Jaine Fenn, Dave Freer, Todd McCaffrey, Steve Miller, Elizabeth Moon, and Toni Weisskopf like it, too.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.

4b.  The proposals for the books following Dragon Ship are on Madame the Agent's desk.  We'll tell you if/when they've been accepted by Baen.  Until then, you now know as much about this as we do.  Feel better?

5.  AsyouknowBob, the Cat Farm and Confusion Factory experienced an Epic Flood a couple weeks ago.  We, by which I mean Steve and I, have been Coping With The Mess Left Behind (the cats providing encouragement, in between naps), which means that, yes, I'm behind on my email.  And just about everything else.  Thank you for your understanding.

Will happily accept any and all writing in whatever order you (or madame the agent) decide to release said prose. Sounds like someone doesn't understand the creative writing process, though you've done a darn good job trying to explain it to us at least in how you and Steve work in your blog. Have loved the snippets you've shown us. Can't wait to see Necessity's Child. K

I enjoyed Landed Alien. I enjoyed Ghost Ship. I'm sure I'll enjoy Dragon Ship whenever it comes out. In the meantime, I'm sure I'll enjoy Necessity's child. kompanii sound VERY intriguing...

You write it, I'll buy it and read it. Your books are on my virtual comfort shelf, and I reread every one of them every year or two.

Household disasters SUCK, and you have my sympathy. I hope it all resolves well and soon.

I sure wish that Amy would proofread her reviews before posting them. There were so many errors in the first few sentences that I stopped reading the review. I should have quit after "Yxtrang" was misspelled.

Thank you, BTW, for letting us know that there were some continuity corrections in the finished version of Dragon Ship. I usually don't purchase the final version if I've already bought the eARC, but in this case was happy to do so and it's in my virtual to-read "pile".

I felt like the dog in that old Gary Larson cartoon when I read about Necessity's Child and the hoped-for sequel to Dragon Ship: "...blah, blah Necessity's Child blah, blah, scheduled for publication..." Hurray!!

I second the motion that we will purchase and READ any and all things Liaden/Lee & Miller, in whatever order they are available, because we are all ADDICTS, jonesing for the next fix. Seriously, I kinda wish you would stop creating new characters that I want to get to know better and follow around like an insane STALKER. But DON'T. Please.
I will be back in Maine starting Monday, next. If you need some physical assistance, please give me a ring.

Looking forward to when the e-arc is available!
However, I am compelled to point out that Steve is not an impartial reference, though we will accept them from the Feline Staff.

I kind of think the demands -- and I agree, some of them have been pretty strongly demands -- that you, your agent, and Toni release the next episode immediately are oddly testaments to the effectiveness of the writing? I mean, there seems to be this persistent feeling that the future episodes have already occurred, and in fact, you've probably already written all of them and are just squirreling them away for some reason. That belief in the magic of your writing -- that the characters, setting, and all of that are just "over there" somewhere, and we're just waiting for the next episode to be released from the vaults that imprison it... that's kind of neat, actually.

I do wonder about the mental picture of publishing behind notions such as "release the sequel next." What, authors have a pile of books stored in their crypts which they dole out to us, through agents and publishers, and they are always several books ahead? Offhand, I'd say most authors are several books behind, with the fans clamoring at the door, and the publishers wishing they had a secret store of books to release when demand rises. But... t'ain't so.

In the meantime, personally, I'm looking forward to Necessity's Child, Trade Secrets, the continuing Carousel tales... and I'll take anything and everything else that you write, too. And when Orson Wells says, "Lee and Miller will write no book before its time..." y'a gotta believe it!

Glad to hear that the cats have been very encouraging in the whole flood cleanup. Good to hear. Our domestic cats don't care too much for water so naturally they re sympathetic. Recently I came across a very wet tiger just emerging from swimming in some body of water.

Adding my voice to those who are pleased and grateful for all new books in any order at any time. Very much looking forward to Necessity's Child when it arrives, thrilled that there will be more Archers Beach stories. And totally exasperated with folk who think that they get to determine what and when you write.

As Mike pointed out, there is the feeling that Daav and Val Con and Pat Rin and Miri and Nova and all the rest are just in the next room. A testament to the life you've breathed into them.

Just got the Dragon Ship ebook from Baen. One situation's outcome (among many) I'll be interested to see is Daav(Aelliana) at the hands of the Uncle. I know what I'll be doing this afternoon. . . .
