Because of the high number of identical spam that has hit this journal over the last two days from registered LJ users, all posting the exact same message* to years' old journal post, and also because I'm sick to death of deleting the damned things, marking the perpetrator as a spammer, and reporting himorher to LJ admin, I have reset the reply permissions on this journal.

Only people who are my LJ "friends" may now comment here.

I regret the inconvenience.

Edited to add:  Going to "Friends Only" seems to have been futile.  I received six more of these stupid things on the overnight, attached to journal entries from 2006 and 2007.  The fact that journal entries from 2006 and 2007 exist is kinda scary in itself. . .

I think that they are sociopaths to whom nobody else is real. The world consists of them, and those shadow people who exist to be their victims.

The payoff is that your computer gets infected with their virus, which turns it into a zombie spam source. That's where all those p3n1s enlargement, money laundering and still farther virus spams have been coming from in the past decade or so. The spammers' own computers have been blocked off the 'net for years, so they've had to come up with this alternative.

At least you're not getting spam in Chinese (or are you being "favored" with some of that, too?) Jesse C is right on the money. Sociopaths are incapable of empathy. Oddly enough, sociopaths are the one type of personality most likely to climb to the top of the corporate ladder and end up in the corner office with a solid gold parachute. And we wonder why the we had that financial meltdown a while back. . . .

Over the last few days I've deleted almost a dozen random spam posts consisting of either outright ads or ginormous blocks of text and links. Very frustrating.

The others that you are describing I've only got a couple of so far.

The ones that mystify me are looking in my LJ inbox and seeing "You are not authorised to view this comment." but I figure those are somehow related to clamping down on this. Just would like to know who on my f-list is deauthorizing me just in case there's a mistaken thing going on there.

LJ suspended the account of the comment on my journal so it isn't there anymore.
