So, the Anne McCaffrey essay commissioned by BenBella has been written and delivered; I've signed all the tip-in pages for the autographed edition of  Necessity's Child;  the short story commissioned for Baen's website has been written and delivered; today I finished reading the galleys for Necessity's Child, and have emailed my correx to the appropriate folken.

Y'all know what that means, don't you?

Right!

Now, I get to put on a new head  read the first 70,000-ish words of Carousel Sun, and get with writing the rest.  I have a soft deadline of December 31.  The manuscript is actually due at Baen on February 15, 2013.  I'm figuring that means writing about 1,000 words a day, minimum, which isn't so bad.

This also assumes that nothing else requiring me to think outside of Archers Beach occurs from now until the end of the year.

...yeah, that's gonna happen.

Everybody having a good holiday?

Hope your Thanksgiving was lovely. We had the clan together, ages 8-93 (my mom). Only 25 for Thanksgiving this year, last year almost 40. Blue skies, no major traffic problems, lovely weather here in northern CA. Wishing you and Steve smooth writing time ahead for the new year.

Maybe I missed something in one of your earlier blogs, if so, my apologies. Curious what the Anne McCaffrey essay was about? Was a big fan of hers, so interested.

I've been scanning in old photos most of the day, and uploading them to Facebook. Tedious, but it's been nice getting feedback from friends and relatives as I go.

Had friends over for dinner yesterday. Today I am just lazing around -- reading, playing with cats, no work of any kind. I'm also planning on avoiding going anywhere shopping is happening.

I have to visit the vampires tomorrow and will see a movie in the afternoon. Not sure what movie yet.

I’m thankful to have had one more Thanksgiving with my 90-year-old dad, and that my mom performed turkey and cornbread dressing one more time and had us all over to share it. I am also thankful for authors who write neat and interesting things for me to read.

I hope you laughed too much, hugged too much, ate too much and enjoyed every minute of it entirely too much.

BenBella is putting out a non-fiction collection of tributes to Anne and to Pern. It will contain 18-20 short (between 3,000-4,000 words each) essays. The list of essay authors was provided to BenBella by Todd, who is editing.

. . .and that's all I know. Basically, we wrote our essay for Todd -- and for Anne.

I'll be pleased to post a list of authors/table of contents, when and if I see one.

Edited to add: Link to book on the BenBella website (http://www.smartpopbooks.com/book/dragonwriter)
