Just in time for holiday gift giving!

The entire Baen ebook backlist is now in the Kindle store on Amazon.  This includes all of the Liaden Universe® novels, through Dragon Ship; the Fey Duology; and Carousel Tides, as well as fine novels by Lois McMaster Bujold, Dave Freer, Spider Robinson, Ryk Spoor, Jerry Pournelle, David Weber and all the rest of
our Baen colleagues. For Kindle users who indulge, that one click should be live now ...

Those who have been used to buying their ebooks directly from Baen may continue to do so since the arrangement with Amazon is in addition to the Baen direct sales. Of course, *all* Baen ebooks continue to be DRM-free.

Ms. Weisskopf at Baen has said that the company continues to work with other ebook distributors, in addition to Amazon.  Those who have ereaders other than Kindles may, as always, download ebooks directly from baenebooks.com in the platform of their choice.

PLEASE NOTE:
This Infodumpling comes to you hot on the heels of Baen's massive upload to Amazon, and the databases are still being brought into alignment.  This means that you may have to search on the specific title that you want to find in the Kindle Store.  But we promise you, all of our books are there.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of our work, and to wish you
the very best of holiday seasons, and a most excellent new year.

Sharon and Steve

I think it's great taht Baen is able to work through Amazon. Hopefully the rate of sales will increase with the added availability for (lazy, like me) buyers.

And soon, soon my precious, more will be available via Barnes and Nobel, too, for those of us who have purchased via Baen but have lost our books thanks to technical fumble-fingeredness. (Such as this commenter, whose Nook died and that is when she discovered that she hadn't backed up her pdf copies of your novels. Or splinters [sob] on her main computer. Lesson learned. Duh.)

If you get a "nook for the pc" reader (I assume there are such things, I haven't actually looked) and ask Barnes&Noble to help, can't you get access to them? Wait, wait, you say you bought them from Baen? Then you still have access, you know? Write to baensupport@principledtechnologies.com for help, they are quite patient and willing to help.

I don't know from Nook, or B&N, but Amazon keeps a record of all the ebooks you've bought from them. If anything happens to your copy on your Kindle or your other enabled devices such as a PC or Android device (e.g., Blackberry), you can redownload them. I have two Kindles -- an older Kindle Keyboard and a Kindle Fire. On my PC, I go to the Amazon website, sign in and go to "Manage your account." From there I can access my list of ebooks, and resend them to whichever device I want to. I can also access my Amazon account through my Kindle Fire and redownload books that way. Perhaps B&N has the same deal?

They do, which is why I claim laziness - buying from B&N means that I was able to redowload all my book purchased from them instantly. Going through the hoops to get my Baen-purchased books is more confusing (I'm a luddite, I admit. That makes things difficult for the folks at helpdesks, but I am aware of my deficiency and try to be as clear as I can when I call them, sobbing, because I'm erady to throw my new lovely ereader against a wall.)

How Nice for You

One problem I have about buying any kind of e-reader device is what do you do if something goes wrong with it? I know if one buys a Kindle at Best Buy there is a warrenty and they will fix it for you. Newsweek is reporting the imminent demise of Best Buy which can't keep up with Amazon. It's real estate is too expensive. Amazon works through giant warehouses places strategically around the US and whose numbers are growing. Folks tend to go into brick and mortar stores with their smart phone apps to find where is the cheapest place. These stores then become showrooms for Amazon. Very weird feeling on all this for me, an old person not used to all this. So, what do you do if you buy a Kindle off Amazon and it malfunctions?

I enjoyed the author's comments on Facebook on gun control. Looks like we may have some luck this time around.

Why does no one ever seem to notice all these shootings take place in GUN FREE ZONES?

Well, I expect you'd send it back to Amazon. If my tablet goes wrong, I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to send it back to Sony.

Baen allows you to redownload infinite times in any format they supply. (If you have a Nook, I would think .epub would work better than .pdf?) As long as you either remember your password or have access to the email account you used, you should be good. If you don't have either, try writing Baen.

Kindles purchased from Amazon come with a one-year default warranty; you can buy a two-year one instead. When my Kindle died for no clear reason, I contacted Amazon, they shipped me a replacement Kindle and a label, and I shipped the Kindle back in that box. (The Kindles that died because my husband sat on them, we ate the loss and stuck to the cheapest Kindles. I suppose Eventually we found an aluminum case on ebay that we're very happy with.)

That said, any Kindle will need to be replaced sooner or later.

Baen's announcement

It is wonderful that Baen is widening their authors' exposure, and congratulations on the increase in royalties.

My only problem with Kindle is that Amazon (from whom I have purchased e-books) is not selling you a book that you can keep forever. They are selling you the ability to read a book. They can cancel your account at any time and you will lose that access to those purchases and you have no recourse.

I will continue to buy my books directly from Baen. Thank you for pointing out that that is still possible, as the Baen message was unclear about that.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas.
