So, about a month ago, Eric Williams was kind enough to send me a print of the cover art for Carousel Sun.  I took it to Framemakers to be framed -- and it came back into my possession on Friday.

It looks nice. Really nice.

But here's the thing -- I long ago ran out of space to hang paintings.  In fact, the cover art for Carousel Tides (also created by Eric) is kinda of hanging -- well, see for yourselves:

...yeah, it's a little crowded.  Clearly, no room to hang the sister painting there, right?  Also?  Not only is there going to be a third Carousel cover, which I also hope to acquire, frame and hang, the cover art for Necessity's Child, which was removed from the living room wall by order of the cats so there was room for their new, primo, cat tree?  Has never been re-hung, so I  -- you see where this is going, right?

Because, so I said to Steve, there's plenty of room to hang pictures over my desk.  All I have to do is shift some things around.

For your information, this is what the wall over my desk looks like:

Because, I said to Steve, there's room over the Narbonic strip for all those little things.

. . .plus, I want to keep the Red Birds, and Kevin Dyer's tree, and I have to leave room for the third Carousel picture.

No problem, right?

No, really -- you can laugh; it's fine.  If this show wasn't low-budget, I'd cue the laugh-track myself.

And the bitter irony is?  That Steve, who has very fine spatial understanding, and who very well knows that this whole project can only end in tears, will get pulled into it against his better judgement and wind up making it work.

As he has done, many, many times before.

. . .I'm thinking I'd better make a pre-emptive Devil's food cake.  What d'y'all think?

Chocolate is always good.

As an artist I acquire way to much of other people's art. That gets hung stacked floor to ceiling on all walls that aren't covered with also floor to ceiling book cases. My work is framed and stacked behind the couches or in my office at school.

The broom on the deskwall can be rehung next to the cat pic on the Allthing wall. that will free up quite a bit of space.
The the topmost desk wall pic can move into area now hidden by the broom. You then should have 3 pictures worth of room.

Oh, and places like Hobby Lobby have these wire things (almost circular) you poke into wallboard and the end that sticks out is a hook that does not fall down. :)

Oh! You have a tree from Kevin. Isn't his work lovely? I'm a lucky girl because he's a local artist for me. Hubby and I have three of his pieces already, and I'm dying for more! You totally need to keep that up. Try marking out space with painter's tape - it releases off the wall with no residue and you'll know where to put the nails/pins.

I have always liked the ancient Japanese custom of rotating their art objects at regular intervals. One does have to have an organized storage area (?!) to do it, but that way the works get appreciated afresh each time they emerge.

Personally, I think this means you need more walls in your house and should move as soon as possible. Preferably before the next big snowfalls, but that's me. They are all lovely and meaningful pictures and the three really will need to go together. In the meantime (and anytime in fact) chocolate of any variety sounds good.

Oh wise keeper of the cat farm, any tips for keeping the cat fur from turning into a tribble factory? We have two Maine Coons, adore them, but are becoming concerned that they're going to be the untimely demise of our Dyson.

Well...we do brush them a couple times a week, more in shedding seasons. We also have Floofy Things(tm) and towels spotted around in the house in favorite cat spots; when they get furry, we wash them. And we do vacuum, but I don't feel we're putting an unreasonable load on our Dyson.

The obvious solution to your crowded walls is cathedral ceilings and binoculars.

Consider a ghost wall?

One of the great inventions of Japan and China is the ghost wall. Actually, I think they have another name, but the idea that one can add movable walls to one's living space, typically with small feet, and the walls are various heights... some fold, some come with their own decorations, and I believe I have seen others where one added paintings or whatever. The pragmatic claim they are simply ways to block the winds, while those who are more imaginative suggest that they block the ghosts. I suppose they might also be simply decorative, but... it might add some badly needed space for hanging the extra baubles?
