Andre Norton died this morning, peacefully in her own home, with her friend and her cats with her.

There are no words that adequately express this loss. She was supportive, kind, interested -- and that doesn't begin to address the impact of her work.

The foundations just took a big hit...

Andre Norton was the first writer I identified in my youth as writing the sort of stuff that I REALLY liked to read. I was thrilled when I learned she was female, because I felt very lonely as a girl who liked science fiction in the sixties.

Hence my LJ user name.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. Definitely a big loss. Hope she's peacefully spinning yarns for the folks in the great beyond...

Thanks.

I'm on digest, I didn't know.

I wish she could have had a few more years to just enjoy sitting in her garden with cats and her Green Man, friends dropping by to visit. But I'm sure she has a lot of catching up to do with old friends elsewhere--and I'm sure she'll be dropping by to visit us all, once in a while.

Her lament will take thought.
