Bookscan counts paper books only and not from every outlet. For instance, and last I heard, Amazon does not report its sales to Bookscan.
I stand corrected: Wal*Mart does not report to Bookscan.
I can't do a thing about Nook editions or Kobo editions or even the stock of Real Books at a particular library. All of these problems fall under the honor of the publisher.
