Oh my

Definitely ice for the first 24 hours. And I agree with Margotinez; elevation is helpful, though a bit of a PITA.

It's been a rough day for some of my favorite authors. I just read on C. J. Cherryh's blog that Jane managed to drop a large rock on the end of her finger while working in the yard today. There was blood. Hope the treatment is effective and you feel better soon.
