The last batch of signed pre-orders were mailed from Unity, Maine,
today, Wednesday, April 13. This clears the deck; there are no more
signed books available from Meisha Merlin. Thank you all for your
patience.
Those who may want a signed book -- not just _Crystal Soldier_, but
any Liaden Universe(R) book -- may contact Ellen Richmond at the

TECHNICAL NOTE FOR WALK-IN BUYERS
We've heard from a number of areas that both _Crystal Soldier_ and
_Balance of Trade_ are not always on the bookstore shelf where you
might expect them to be. A distributor's database error caused
some bookstores to place these books in the graphic novel section.
If you can't find _Crystal Soldier_ or _Balance of Trade_ in the science
fiction section, check graphic novels. We've also had a report that _Crystal Soldier_ has been spotted in the Military History section of at least one chain store! If you can't find the book in either place, please check with a sales associate. Both _Balance of Trade_ and _Crystal Soldier_ should be available from regional warehouses; if you discover that your local store is not stocking these books please encourage them to do so.

Meisha Merlin is at this moment planning on releasing the soft cover trade edition of _Crystal Soldier_ in *February 2006*, concurrent with the release of the hardcover _Crystal Dragon_.

HAIL AND FAREWELL: NEWS OF TWO SEMINAL INFLUENCES
Some of you may not heard that Andre Norton passed away on March 17,
2005. An obituary is posted at the SFWA site:

Andre was very supportive of Steve and Sharon's work, and her own
gave them pleasure and inspiration for more than thirty years. She will
be missed, very much.
Another writer who has been endlessly kind and supportive of Sharon
and Steve is Anne McCaffrey, who has been named a SFWA Grand Master. She
is the third woman -- joining Andre Norton and Ursula LeGuin -- and the
twenty-second writer so honored since 1974. Read a little about
