First things first: Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] bad_bad_zoot!

So, yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] kinzel had an early dental appointment, after which we mailed a whole buncha SRM orders out, came home, did lunch and then returned to the dentist for my appointment. I had planned on doing this solo, but [livejournal.com profile] kinzel decided to come with -- and I'm glad he did. Came home by way of Children's Book Cellar, where, with [livejournal.com profile] kinzel's connivance, I scored a gorgeous blue-and-silver dragon puppet; and the drug store, where antibiotics were had *sigh*.

Not much writing got done yesterday, what with one thing and another, though I did remove a 500 word scene and summarize it in three sentences at the beginning of the next scene.

A less-fraught doctor's appointment is scheduled for this afternoon, around which writing will go forth.

The mail has been providing some interesting bits over the last few days. Saturday, in the same batch of snailmail, we got a plea from AARP to phone a toll-free number and tell our congresscritters to Just Say No to privatization of Social Security, and the Social Security Statement of Account, which now fetchingly wears this warning: Your estimated benefits are based on current law. Congress has made changes to the law in the past and can do so at any time. The law governing benefit amounts may chance because, by 2042, the payroll taxes collected will be enough to pay only about 73 percent of scheduled benefits. My, my...

Email nets this interesting bit from TracFone, the company that provides my cellphone service, such as I have it:

STOP the FCC from RAISING your TRACFONE Rates!

Did you know that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wants to shift the burden of the Universal Service Fund (USF) collection method from large corporate long distance users to residential and other low-volume telephone users, like you? Stop the FCC from approving this radical new "flat fee" tax collection method for USF funding. If you do not act now, this FCC tax hike could raise your local and cellular phone bills.

Tell the new FCC Chairman, Kevin Martin, that you oppose the "flat fee" tax increase that will unfairly raise your phone bills - call 1-888-225-5322 ext. 0 today or click here to e-mail the FCC.
Anybody hear anything about this?

Nope. This is the first I've noticed it. I didn't find anything under "Universal Service Fund (USF)" at Hoaxkill, either.

So, are you going to make an icon of the dragon? 8^)
